We are so proud of our athletes who represented their countries and showcased their remarkable aerial skills at the recent FAI World Championships in Beaufort, North Carolina, USA. Besides all the teams and individuals that made it to the podium, there are many stories of dedication, pride, and passion for our sport that deserve attention.
Legendary Ulf Liljenbäck of Sweden shareed one with us:
Echochamber traveled to Beaufort, North Carolina, with the goal of reclaiming fifth place and the title of “World’s Best Amateur Team,” which we lost to Great Britain in 2022. We started off well, and after day one, we were only five points behind Hayabusa in fourth place and five points ahead of Airbus.
We had a rough second day but came back strong on the third day and managed to fend off Airbus to claim fifth place. Hayabusa had a solid competition and pulled away from us during final rounds. However, we did win two rounds and tie one. That was probably our best chance to beat them. With the amount of training they are putting in for next year, they will be a top contender for the gold again.
While training in DeLand, I accidentally lost my cutaway handle when exiting a block 2. Obviously, that only left me with the reserve. After my teammates made me aware of what had happened, we continued the skydive until break-off, and Anders was right there to capture the reserve pull.
“I had no doubt in my mind when pulling that reserve handle. If I had had a pulse meter, it would not have shown more stress than an ordinary pull. Thank you, guys, for making sure that we are safe while skydiving!”
