First over Greenland
news
Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. It’s March 2024 when a herd of muskox grazes untroubled on the frozen fields on the edge of the great ice cap. Their breath visible in the crisp air. Then, suddenly, a humming noise evolves in the sky.
The muskox make instinctively a defensive circle. The humming noise comes closer. It’s a shiny red helicopter from Air Greenland. Out of the helicopter pop some small figures. They come together, form a star and go apart again. Then the canopies burst open. One is a fair green canopy from Aerodyne. The color stands out beautifully to the clear blue skies and snowy white backgrounds.
A group of five sport skydivers has jumped over Greenland this March. They set the new record of the largest freefall formation over the Greenlandic grounds. The expedition was organized by Bob Draijer. The other members were Oana Oros, Arnold Camfferman, Ronald Engelage and Joëlle Draijer.
Firstly the team made two jumps above the Polar circle in Kangerlussuaq, after that they jumped twice in the capital town of Nuuk. In Kangerlussuaq the backdrop was snowy glaciers and icy fields. Ice as far as you could see. Nuuk is situated near the sea, so the views made out fjords, snowy skerries and peninsulas and ocean, a lot of ocean. Both places were extraterrestrial beautiful. And Aerodyne was part of it!
